My thoughts on Westfields London........

Last weekend i decided to go and check out the new shopping centre that has recently opened up in London and see what all the fuss was about......! Although the fascias of all the stores were very impressive, sleek is the look they were going for, i have to say that it did not really offer any point of difference to Bluewater or the WestEnd for me. I usually avoid shopping in London at weekends due to the crowds and especially after spending all week surrounded by clothes, and the visit reinforced this. However the upside was that the place was very busy and plenty of customers seemed to be parting with there money (mainly on UGGS! it seemed!). I left feeling exhausted but a little more confident about the retail world. Although we are in a recession it seems that customers are still willing to spend. I think the editor of Drapers Lauretta Roberts hits the nail on the head in the November 15th edition of Drapers were she describes shoppers as either 'spending more on less items' (just the one pair of expensive shoes for this season please!), 'or less on more items' (thanks to the likes of Primark).....or 'worst of all less on less', but judging by the traffic at Westfields its the former two rather then the latter.
